The holiday season is upon us in full force. Thanksgiving was the beginning and we have about 3 weeks left in the season. But can you do the Holidays Keto Style?

Why not?

Holiday parties, work parties, family gatherings, heck you might just think that you should put Keto on the back burner and wait until the beginning of the year to get back on the Keto Wagon. But seriously why? There are so many things that you can do to make Keto easy on the holidays. I’ve told you over and over on this site and also through email that you’ve got this girl. And seriously you do.

I have confidence in you and in myself. I know keeping on course can be a daunting task. I’ve been there and sometimes I still am. But I am going to give you some of my go-to tricks to stay on track for the holidays.

Christmas Parties Keto Style

I know that most Christmas or Holiday parties have all kinds of sweets, but most of all there are alcoholic beverages. And being an adult you probably like letting loose and having some alcohol while out socially, especially at parties.

Tip 1 – Stick to basics like vodka, tequila, rum, whiskey and gin. I know that doesn’t sound like much fun who wants to take shots while you are a Holiday Party. But here is the thing. You can do them on the rocks or neat also. Which classes it up some, I go back to the old classic black and white movies I used to watch where they use the ice bucket and drop in a few ice cubes and pour over some nice whiskey over it. Or just do it neat.

Tip 2 – if you have to have a mixed drink do vodka and tonic with a squeeze of lime or add some Mio to the mix. Those are my favorite. I’ ve heard about using Bang drinks and adding a shot also.

But remember when doing Keto most of us become lightweights. So drink responsibly and stay safe.

Holiday Dinners Keto Style

I find that holiday dinners are the easiest to navigate through. I know what I can eat. But I also know it may not be easy for the beginner or the woman who doesn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings for not trying someone dish that they slaved over.

So I am going to start on the latter. Why because I know that was how I was raised. “That you need to try everything at least one bite. If you don’t like it you don’t have to eat it but at least try it.” That is so wrong and I will never do that to my kids. If they don’t like something they don’t have to try it. Most of the time they do but still you don’t have to.

My go-to when I am at someone’s dinner party is that my body does not do with that. Which is the truth! My body does not do good with all the carbs that are in foods. I am not lying and I am not being rude.

Oh, also you don’t have to finish everything on your plate. But don’t put it on there if you just want to spare someone’s feelings. Your health should be your number one priority. If you are allergic to peanuts you are not going to eat them to make someone happy. I know that is an extreme example because you are not going to have an allergic reaction that can kill you in a matter of minutes. But it does affect your health. So don’t worry about their feelings. Nine out of ten times they won’t even notice because you will have other foods on your plate.

Navigating your way around the Holiday meal.

I know in my family and group of friends we are always asked to bring a dish to make it easy for the dinner so that not just one person is cooking dinner, so why not bring something you know you can eat.

Appetizers:

  • Celery sticks
  • meats
  • cheese
  • broccoli
  • tomato
  • cauliflower
  • Shrimp (keto cocktail sauce)
  • moon cheese
  • Ranch Dressing
  • hot wings
  • blue cheese dressing

Meal:

  • Prime rib
  • Turkey
  • Ham (Keto)
  • Lamb
  • Seafood

Sides:

I know there are a lot more but if you are not cooking the dinner the thing will be to navigate through the dinner. Stick to basics of Keto, eat our protein and your fats. When I was my moms it was a little harder to get my fats so I made sure I brought my heavy cream with me and added to my coffee. I added melted butter onto my broccoli.

I had some comments about not having much on my plate but I just said that if I wanted more I could get more. I have always been a meat eater so it was not really big deal.

But think of it this way – you are there to spend time with your family or your friends. You can do this without sabotaging your efforts. You don’t need to eat all the food that is there. It is about the company and the conversation not about the food.

Don’t Mindlessly Eat

I know when you are with a group and everyone is snacking before and after the meal, it is easy to just put food in your mouth because it is there. But don’t play cards, drink water, have a conversation, keep your hands busy and if you are still hungry eat the meat. LOL. ❤
